Building with LLMs, shipping to real users

I'm a Full-Stack AI Engineer based in Addis Ababa, building AI products from LLM agents and RAG through mobile UX, backend, and the cloud infrastructure that keeps them running.

I founded two education startups. PrepX is an AI tutoring app (1,000+ installs, 250 MAU, 5★) with textbook-grounded retrieval over ~229K curriculum questions, kept model-agnostic via OpenRouter. Temaribet is a tutoring marketplace I started as a freshman and scaled to 4,000+ tutors and 500+ families — selected into Reach for Change and Orbit Innovation Hub.

Alongside founding, I ship production software for US and EU startups (React Native, NestJS / FastAPI, vector + full-text search, AWS + Nginx) and maintain react-native-ajora, an open-source agent-UI library with 6,100+ npm downloads.

Textbook-grounded AI tutoring with offline-first mobile UX for Ethiopian high-school students.

  • Built and shipped the full React Native (Expo) app and AI tutoring pipeline; grew to 1,000+ installs, 250 MAU, 5★, and launched subscription monetization with a 3-person team.
  • Designed a hybrid RAG system (Qdrant vector + Typesense full-text) for answers grounded in the curriculum, kept model-agnostic across Gemini, GPT, Claude, and open models via OpenRouter.
  • Modeled a self-referential curriculum graph across 4 grades, 6 subjects, and 12 years of national exams — ~229K questions, 13.5K quizzes, 5.75K worksheets, 1.86K flashcard sets.
  • Built backend services with NestJS, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL powering chat, retrieval, content workflows, notifications, and live competitions.

  • Dymnd (Chicago startup): shipped production React Native features used by 100+ users over a multi-month paid engagement — rebuilt timezone-sensitive habit logic and fixed OTP, consent, keyboard, and navigation defects.
  • Maintained and upgraded a US bar-exam prep platform — backend/infra work (Node.js, AWS EC2, Nginx, Certbot) plus production bug fixes and stability improvements.

  • Founded as a freshman to solve access and trust problems in private tutoring for Ethiopian families.
  • Selected into Reach for Change and Orbit Innovation Hub accelerators (backed by the IKEA & Mastercard Foundations); awarded grant funding and won a startup pitch competition.

A pressure-sensing footwear prototype that detects high-pressure regions in diabetic patients' feet to help prevent ulcers — combining biomedical problem analysis, embedded pressure sensors, hardware prototyping, and preventative health monitoring.
